Browser Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Poligon Speed Dial browser extension handles, what stays on your device, and which third-party services may receive data when you use the extension.

Summary

Poligon Speed Dial stores your shortcuts, settings, and backups locally in your browser. It does not send your full speed dial configuration to a Poligon backend. Certain features contact third-party services to provide weather, favicons, and fonts. Shortcut preview thumbnails are generated by a Poligon screenshot service and stored locally as base64 images.

Information stored locally

  • Shortcut URLs, titles, tab groups, and optional custom thumbnails (stored as base64 images).
  • Appearance and location settings.
  • Custom background images and backup files you create or restore.
  • Cached screenshot preview images for shortcuts you have viewed.
  • Weather cache entries to reduce repeat API requests.

Third-party services

When you use Poligon Speed Dial, the following external services may receive data. Each service is independent and governed by its own privacy policy.

  • ipwho.is — receives your IP address when weather uses automatic location detection.
  • api.bigdatacloud.net — receives latitude and longitude for reverse geocoding into a city name.
  • api.open-meteo.com and geocoding-api.open-meteo.com — receive coordinates and city search queries to display weather and location search results.
  • Poligon screenshot service — receives full shortcut URLs when thumbnail previews are generated. Generated images are stored locally in your browser.
  • google.com/s2/favicons — receives domain names extracted from shortcut URLs when favicons are loaded.

When data is sent

  • Opening a new tab may trigger weather requests and load fonts.
  • Displaying shortcuts may send each shortcut URL to the screenshot service to generate or refresh cached preview images, and may send domains to favicon services.
  • Adding or editing a shortcut may request a thumbnail from the screenshot service.
  • Using automatic weather location sends your IP address to ipwho.is.
  • Using manual location search sends your query to Open-Meteo geocoding.
  • Enabling browser geolocation sends coordinates from your device to the extension for weather display and may also be used with reverse geocoding providers.

Browser permissions

Poligon Speed Dial uses the storage permission to save your configuration and cached preview images locally, and the geolocation permission when you choose location-based weather features that rely on device location.

Backups

Backup files are JSON documents saved to your device. They contain your shortcuts, settings, embedded background images, and cached screenshot preview images. Poligon Speed Dial does not upload backups automatically. If you share a backup file, whoever receives it can read its contents.

Your choices

  • Use manual location instead of automatic location to avoid IP-based geolocation where possible.
  • Remove shortcuts you do not want reflected in screenshot or favicon requests.
  • Export and delete local extension data by removing the extension or clearing extension storage in your browser.

Children

Poligon Speed Dial is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

This extension privacy policy may be updated as Poligon Speed Dial changes. Material updates will be reflected in the in-extension text and the last updated date above.
